Five manifestations
Tradition associates Kedarnath with Shiva's hump, Tungnath with the arms, Rudranath with the face, Madhyamaheshwar with the middle or navel, and Kalpeshwar with the matted hair.
Panch Kedar
Panch Kedar is a group of five Shiva shrines in Uttarakhand's Garhwal Himalaya: Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar and Kalpeshwar. Their sacred narrative is traditionally connected with the Pandavas' search for Shiva.
A mountain pilgrimage
These shrines do not form a simple road circuit. Most involve separate approaches and mountain walks, with very different altitude, terrain and seasonal access.
