गाओ गाओ री, प्रियाप्रीतम की आरती का अर्थ
The grammar here is worth noticing: gao gao ri, with the feminine vocative, means the aarti is being sung by women to women. The sakhis hold the instruments, the sakhis are told to look, and what they are told to look at is a couple — priya-pritam, she named first. It belongs to the same devotional world as the Braj aartis of Radha and Krishna rather than to the heroic Rama of the Ramayana, and its instruction is simply to let the eyes get caught and stay caught.
