मैया मोरी मैं नहीं माखन खायो
Maiya Mori Main Nahi Makhan Khayo
A playful Surdas pada in which child Krishna protests that he did not steal the butter.
मैया मोरी मैं नहीं माखन खायो।
Mother, I did not eat the butter.
ख्याल परै ये सखा सबै मिलि मेरे मुख लपटायो॥
These friends joined together and smeared it on my face.
देखि तुही छींके पर भाजन ऊँचे धरि लटकायो।
You placed the pot high on the hanging shelf—look for yourself.
हौं जु कहत नान्हें कर अपने मैं कैसे करि पायो॥
My hands are so small; how could I possibly have reached it?
मुख दधि पोंछि बुद्धि इक कीन्ही दोना पीठि दुरायो।
Yet Krishna cleverly wipes his mouth and hides the bowl behind him.
डारि साँटि मुसुकाइ जसोदा स्यामहि कंठ लगायो॥
Yashoda puts down the stick, smiles and embraces her child.
बाल बिनोद मोद मन मोह्यो भक्ति प्रताप दिखायो।
His playful innocence enchants the mind and reveals the power of loving devotion.
सूरदास जसुमति को यह सुख शिव बिरंचि नहिं पायो॥
Surdas says even Shiva and Brahma do not know joy equal to Yashoda's maternal love.
मैया मोरी मैं नहीं माखन खायो का अर्थ
The poem captures Krishna's childlike mischief and Yashoda's tender affection, a central mood of vatsalya bhakti.
