Cross-checked against BhaktiBharat and Drik Panchang editions

Traditional public-domain Hindi devotional composition; BhajanDhara transcription and meanings prepared independently

The two editions agree on all seven verses. The refrain differs: BhaktiBharat reads ॐ जय कश्यप नन्दन, प्रभु जय अदिति नन्दन (set here, as it matches the metre of the Hindi aarti form), Drik Panchang reads जय कश्यप-नन्दन, ॐ जय अदिति नन्दन. Verse 5: सहज (set here) against Drik Panchang's साहज. No modern source translation is reproduced.

Meaning & context

What does Surya Dev Aarti mean?

Sung at sunrise worship, on Sundays and through the Chhath days, this aarti follows the standard Hindi aarti metre — the same shape as Om Jai Jagdish Hare — and moves from Surya's parentage and chariot to his role in the working of the world: day, rain, growth, the opening of lotuses. It closes not by asking for relief from any particular trouble but for the removal of ignorance, which is unusual among household aartis and worth noticing.
